He also played a crucial role against Houston Dynamo FC in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, playing all 120 minutes and converting his penalty, which led Detroit to victory over the defending US Open Cup champions 10-9 on penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amoo-Mensah<\/strong> was forced to miss the first month of the 2023 season due to an injury sustained in 2022. However, after returning from his injury, <strong>Amoo-Mensah<\/strong> quickly became a key player in the Detroit City backline again. His remarkable performances down the stretch, including two goals in two games in September, contributed to Detroit&#8217;s first-ever USL Championship playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, where <strong>Amoo-Mensah<\/strong> delivered an outstanding 90-minute clean sheet performance. With exceptional displays throughout the season, <strong>Amoo-Mensah <\/strong>was awarded the 2023 Black Arrow MVP Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Naperville, Illinois native joined DCFC from the Michigan Stars as the club transitioned to the USL Championship in 2022, after spending two seasons with the National Independent Soccer Association side. Prior to that, <strong>Amoo-Mensah<\/strong> spent his youth career in the Chicago Fire system and Sockers FC Chicago.
